Retreats - Shalom Retreats

What are Shalom Retreats?

Shalom Retreat is an intensive growth experience set in a loving and supportive community. Shalom Retreats are based on our understanding of love:

More than anything else, we long to love and be loved.

Love is a gift.

Love is not time-bound.

Love is a response to need.

Loving is an art. The skills of loving can be learned. They involve seeing and hearing another, expressing good will, recognizing another’s right to think and feel as he/she does, and the skill of being fully present in our relationships with others.

Shalom Retreats focus on empowerment. Through the practice of intentional loving, open space is created in community in which individuals can learn to express themselves with integrity, creativity and passion. Our loving and life force can be blocked by unexpressed feelings such as anger, fear and grief. By unblocking energy we are able to claim our sexuality, our joy, our passion and fully embody the Divine in our daily lives. A variety of techniques (e.g. guided fantasy, primal therapy, role-play, gestalt and bioenergetics) are used as a means for releasing and transforming repressed emotions, so that one’s passion for life may be fully realized.

Three-Day Shalom Retreats are intended as an introduction to longer Shalom Retreats and events. Shalom Retreats are for personal growth. They are not intended as a substitute for psychotherapy. They are designed for those who seek to grow and become more aware. Although Shalom Retreats focus on individual work, they can also deepen relationships. You may choose to participate with a friend or life partner.  We take care to build a loving community that holds each individual as they seek to alter underlying attitudes and behavior patterns that are no longer life giving.  We encourage you to consider attending three or more consecutive retreats as a means of more thoroughly understanding and integrating new life choices.

If you are interested in an individual counseling session prior to the retreat in order to clarify the focus of your work, arrangements can be made for early arrival on the day the retreat begins.  This is recommended particularly for people who are coming to a Shalom Retreat for the first time.  The cost for a pre-retreat session ranges from $85 to $110.

Three special Shalom Retreats are offered annually:  the Intern Shalom, and the Young Adult Shalom.  Interns who currently live, work and study at the Mountain, lead the Intern Shalom.  Priority registration is given to those in financial need.  The Young Adult Shalom is offered at a reduced rate for young people between the ages of 16-22.
